Hair transplant for men in Egypt

A hair transplant for men at Istanbul Hair Clinic in Zahraa El Maadi, Cairo, is a procedure under local anaesthetic in which Dr. Mohamed Hazem, Hair and Skin Specialist, moves hair follicles from the donor area at the back of the head to bald or thinning areas at the front and crown. It usually takes 6 to 8 hours in a single session, and you go home the same day. The cost ranges from EGP 30,000 to 60,000 depending on the degree of baldness and the number of grafts. The clinic is independent and Egyptian, with 7 years of experience and more than 2,000 hair transplant cases.

Who is a candidate for a hair transplant?

A hair transplant suits most men with genetic hair loss, a receding front hairline or thinning at the crown, as long as there’s enough donor hair at the back of the head. At the first consultation Dr. Mohamed Hazem decides whether you’re a candidate for a transplant or need hair-loss treatment first.

  • Genetic hair loss at the front, the crown or both
  • Receding front hairline (temples)
  • Thin hair after medication hasn’t worked
  • Enough donor hair at the back of the head
  • Stable general health

If hair loss is still active, it’s better to start with PRP or mesotherapy before the transplant to stabilise your existing hair.

Hair transplant techniques at the clinic

DHI (direct implantation)

In DHI each graft is implanted directly with a special pen without opening channels first, which gives more control over the angle and direction of every hair. It's often used for the front hairline and areas that need high density.

After the procedure: recovery and results

In the first days after the procedure there’s some redness and small scabs in the transplanted area, which clear within one to two weeks, and most patients are back at work within days. Between the first and third month the transplanted hair sheds — this is normal and expected, because the follicle itself stays under the skin. After that the new hair starts to grow; you’ll see a clear result around month six, and the final result at 9 to 12 months.

Hair transplant for men — FAQ

The procedure is done under local anaesthetic, so you don't feel pain during the transplant apart from the first sting of the injection. Afterwards you may feel some mild tightness, easily controlled with ordinary painkillers.

Usually 6 to 8 hours in one session depending on the number of grafts, and you go home the same day.

Most patients go back to work within 3 to 5 days, and it's best to avoid heavy effort and sport for two weeks.

The grafts are taken from the back of the head, an area resistant to genetic hair loss, so transplanted hair usually lasts for life. Temporary shedding in the first 3 months is normal and the hair grows back.

The result starts to show clearly around month six, and the final result is at 9 to 12 months.
